THE NEW STORAGE GENERATION WITH THREE-PHASE AND SINGLE PHASE GRID BACK-UP
In the high voltage versions of the BYD Battery-Box Premium Line, a differentiation is made between the smaller HVS and the larger HVM. The Premium Line is compatible with GEN24 Plus (HVs/HVM) and Symo Hybrid (HVM). The capacities of the combinable batteries range from 5.1–10.2 kWh (HVS) and 8.3-22.1 kWh (HVM).
Also the voltages of the HVS and HVM differ. The more powerful HVS modules have a nominal voltage of 102.4 V each. By contrast, the HVM has a nominal voltage of 51.2 V per module. These different voltages subsequently lead to different charging and discharging power.
Fronius has once again achieved true grid back-up, with the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM. This means that even three-phase loads can be used in a grid back-up situation.
Like its predecessors, the Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM is based on lithium iron phosphate – one of the most reliable storage technologies. The battery has a modular structure and can be expanded in steps of 2.6 kWh (HVS) or 2.8 kWh (HVM). This means that there is nothing to prevent the storage being expanded at a later date.
Another advantage of the BYD HVS/HVM is the option for the parallel operation of up to three battery storage systems. This enables higher storage capacities for small commercial systems.
The floor mounting means that the installation and commissioning process can again be carried out quickly and easily.
By combining the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM with other sectors such as heat supply or e-mobility, it is possible to achieve very high self-consumption rates and self-sufficiency levels. This results in maximum independence in the home.

Imagine if your life’s work was wiped out in a matter of hours due to a violent act of Mother Nature. New Zealand is experienced in natural disasters. We have survived numerous cyclones, floods and earthquakes, but has your business?
Natural disasters can quickly cut power, leaving you with little to no preparation time. Imagine not having any power to run your assembly lines, cash registers, data centres, and cooling systems. Your production would come to a stand-still, your inventory may expire and your customers would go elsewhere because you have no power to ring up their purchases.
Can your business afford to be without power for an extended period of time? This is the reality many business owners have experienced first hand and all that is left of their businesses are memories of a cherished past. The good news is this doesn’t have to be you. You can prepare right now to supply back-up power to you business with the installation of a generator. Ask yourself this question, can your business afford to be without power for an extended period of time?
Insuring Your Business against Power Outages It is not unusual for businesses to have emergency readiness plans when a disaster strikes however prices tend to skyrocket as demand is limited. It is not unusual for a generator to sell for as much as three to five times the amount they normally would during a disaster. Rental facilities are not a better option as they only keep a limited number of units on hand.
Preparing for a power emergency is a straightforward process. The first step in preparing for a generator installation is making sure you follow local and federal guidelines which means getting the appropriate permits for an industrial/commercial unit. A generator specialist along with an electrical engineer will determine what size, fuel type and consumption is right for your business.
Once you get the permits and determine what size and specification are required, installation is a quick process. Units can be customized to fit most structural challenges and can be hidden away from public view in a basement, roof or in the back of a building. Units can also be sound attenuated with enclosures to reduce noise. Where stand-by units are not permissible, portable units can be wheeled in and hooked to the transfer switch of most building. Mobile units are a great solution in cases where permits or size restrictions are present. Buying a used generator can also save a great deal of money over new units.
When disaster hits, often many good folks are found wondering how such bad luck happened to fall upon their heads. The lucky ones are the individuals that prepared beforehand. Roman philosopher Seneca once stated, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” No matter what business you’re in it is a good idea to ensure your livelihood in case disaster strikes. It is better to have peace of mind and never use a generator versus being left unprepared.

With three vineyards under cultivation, winemakers can produce both single grape variety, and blended-grape wines of endless depth and character.
The diverse location of their vineyards amongst steep the hills of the Priorat – from the high altitude Mas Vell plantation, to the precipitous slopes of the Pendent plantation – produce low yield grapes from slate and quartz soils. Even the climate differs on each three vineyard alternating from moist maritime breezes fresh off the Mediterranean to hot arid continental winds blowing from Aragon’s desert land.
Silence Perinet Winery decided that it was time to retire their diesel generator and allow silence to fall over the vineyard, stylish visitor center, fermentation rooms and cellars so that wine tourists can enjoy the stunning scenery in silence whilst almost 200 solar panels quietly generate green power, and the winery reduces its carbon footprint to zero.
Current Generation can power any size winery with BYD Lithium Iron Phosphate technology.
An agricultural machinery workshop has achieved power independence after regional solar specialists the solar system is designed as a off grid power supply which would meet their 300kWh/day requirement. 750 Solar panels rated at 300Wp and runs a range of workshop equipment – including an overhead crane operation, boilers, workshop machinery, irrigation pumps and the office buildings.
The installation comes after a decision to expand the company – further work is underway to build a suite of offices and larger workshop which will double their working capacity. The private power installation will be fully operational when building work is complete in three months – in the meantime the customer is very happy with the work in progress.
The decision to install private power was linked to company growth. Plans to provide an enhanced connection to the electricity grid would have entailed new lines and infrastructure over a long distance, together with way-leave permission requirements from third parties.
Current Generation know this installation of off-grid electricity is always a challenge, whatever the size of the solar PV plant. “We specialise in system-design and in supporting the installer in the configuration of the equipment – together with programming based on customer consumption habits, photovoltaic potential and battery capacity and chemistry.”
The off-grid system includes:
Current daily consumption is around 300 kWh but will more than double when the office building and workshops are complete.
Most consumption occurs during the day – hence the 5 Fronius ECO 27 kW grid inverters in addition to 6 Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250-100 TR VE.CAN solar charge controllers.
The 9 Quattro inverter/chargers of 15 kVA operate in parallel, giving the installation the capacity to withstand nominal loads of up to 135 kVA (108 kW). To this power we can add the grid inverters during hours of sunshine – reaching a maximum power of 270 kW in the middle part of the day.
In the absence of solar energy, the installation is supported by two generator sets which can operate in parallel. The main generator runs on propane gas with an output of 100 kVA and a second auxiliary paralleled diesel set can provide 200 kVA extra power if required.
The Quattro inverter’s no-break functionality with 20 millisecond switching prevents micro-cuts occurring when the generator sets start-up or shut-down – thus ensuring the high power needs of the plants operation can continue without interruption, even while the grid or generators cut in and out.

BYD officially opened its expanded battery-electric bus manufacturing facility in the U.S. city of Lancaster in southern California – and it’s fully powered by renewable energy.
The expansion of the Coach and Bus space has seen the facility grow to nearly 41,800 square metres – close to quadruple its initial 2013 size. The expanded facility will enable BYD to build up to 1,500 battery-electric buses annually and also provide an employment bonanza, with up to 1,200 full-time jobs at the facility.
The facility also supports R&D and assembly for BYD’s battery-electric medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
The renewable energy used to run the Coach and Bus line is provided by the City of Lancaster’s utility, Lancaster Choice Energy. The utility sources renewables primarily in the forms of wind and solar power. In 2015, the City became the first municipality in Southern California Edison’s region to form a Community Choice Aggregator and its own utility service provider,
BYD is the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles and says it has more than 27,000 buses operating around the world that have collectively clocked up more than 213 million kilometres of revenue service. It has delivered 137 electric buses in the U.S. and Canada, with more than 75 delivered in 2017. The company says it has an additional 300 buses on order and options for more than 300 additional electric bus purchases.
In terms of all-electric trucks, BYD says it will have delivered 70 to its North American customers by the end of this year, with 140+ orders for trucks to date.
The largest bus produced by BYD is the 18-metre K11. It has a top speed of 90 kmh, a range of 320 kilometres and a charging time of three hours.
The K1 has a lithium iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank with a capacity of 591 kilowatt hours – around the equivalent of 44 Tesla Powerwall 2 batteries. LiFePO4 is considered the safest lithium chemistry due to its comparatively low risk of thermal runaway.
